The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Title: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Author: Mark Twain
Publisher: Mission
ISBN: n/a

Why Read?: For Fun

Thoughts: Audio book is the best way to read Mark Twain's rich use of dialect.  Huck Finn is definitely a darker story than Tom Sawyer.

Rating: 4/5

Freak the Mighty

Title: Freak the Mighty
Author: Rodman Philbrick
Publisher: Blue Sky
ISBN: 9780590474122

Why Read?: For Fun

Thoughts: Although rather dark, a good story about acceptance, although some of the slang seemed off for eight-graders in the early 90s.

Finding Perfect

Title: Finding Perfect
Author: Elly Swartz
Publisher: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux
ISBN: 9780374303129

Why Read?: For Fun

Thoughts: An excellent depiction of OCD for middle grade readers.  Everyone can learn from and be touched by this story.

Rating: 5/5

Family Magic

Title: Family Magic
Author: Patti Larsen
Publisher: self
ISBN: n/a

Why Read?: Fresh Fiction

Thoughts: Almost seemed liked two books - one about a demon witch who wants nothing to do with her family; and one about a new witch at school trying to be normal and fit in.  The first storyline is definitely the better.
